As part of Detection and Measurement, Enterprise Control Systems (ECS) is a leading supplier of long range data links that support real time high resolution video transfer between air and ground users. In creating products like RF inhibitors and specialized equipment for military and security purposes, we protect ground forces and infrastructure around the world.
How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Systems Engineer for CommTech (Enterprise Control Systems & TCI), you will play a crucial role in the full product lifecycle from supporting bids and tenders, gathering requirements all the way through to system architecture definition, verification and delivery to our customers.
You will be joining a small dynamic team continually designing and developing world class products. As a Senior Systems Engineer you’ll help lead technical development working closely with our other engineering disciplines such as RF, Hardware, Mechanical and Embedded. You will help define, develop and deliver bespoke engineering solutions supporting both New product Development (NPD) and Revenue Generating Projects.
This position will have the opportunity to work across our three capability areas;
• Datalinks – Secure Tactical Data Links for video and Internet Protocol (IP) Data transmission.
• Spectrum Monitor Systems – Empowering customers to monitor, analyze and manage the RF spectrum.
• Battlespace – Covering tactical COMINT, High Frequency Direction Finding (HF DF), Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and Counter Remote Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (C-RCIED) products.
You will help guide the development delivering results to specification, on time and in budget. We are looking for somebody that is imaginative, thorough and practical with a track record of delivering results utilizing inhouse and external resources.
As an experienced systems engineer you will have the confidence to solve a wide range of problems and be capable of leading from architecture through design, implementation, and verification. You will be competent at working independently and guiding other engineering disciplines.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

1. Systems Engineering for CommTech (TCI | ECS) products including but not limited to;
• Bids and Proposals Support
• Definition of technical solutions
• System Architecture
• Systems Requirements Capture and Management
• System Performance Analysis
• Interface Definition
• System Verification
2. Technical responsibility including but not limited to;
• Responsibility for successful delivery of the Engineering development
• Managing of design trade offs
• Managing of internal and external resource assigned to your project
• Review and approval of designs and documentation
• Leading Design Reviews
• Verification of designs against requirement specifications
3. Documentation and Communication including but not limited to;
• Creation of systems design documentation including requirement specifications and Statement of Works
• Creation of system block diagrams and wiring diagrams
• Test and verification documentation
• Manual and technical support documentation
• Cross departmental communication, glueing all key stakeholders including Leadership, Engineering, Marketing and Customer Support.
• Supporting project progress meetings and status reports
• Supporting and contributing to project documentation including risks registers, project plans, budget trackers and status reports
• Organise and lead Preliminary, Interim and Critical Design Reviews as dictated by company procedures
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
• A minimum of 5 years experience in an equivalent role
• A strong understanding of systems engineering methods, toolsets and processes
• Proven background in engineering design, systems engineering or project/product implementation
• Experience in delivering at a company the size of CommTech (ECS & TCI)
• Experience of working across the full engineering development lifecycle
• Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve assigned tasks in complex systems engineering.
• Skills in analysis, critical thinking and technical problem solving.
• Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
• Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to do as well as manage others
• Ability to work in a team and interact with other Engineering disciplines.
• Ability to produce results under pressure and with limited resources
• A can-do attitude with a willingness to help others.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• A minimum of 7 years experience in an equivalent role.
• Awareness of analogue or digintaldigital electronic development
• Awareness of software development principles
• Design experience in an engineering discipline outside of systems engineering such as mechanical or software.
• Concept of Operation Development
• An understanding and experience of design of products aligned with some part of CommTech’s product portfolio
Education & Certifications
• Bachelors/Masters degree in Engineering/related subject or equivalent work experience
Security
• British Citizen or ability to obtain required security clearance (SC).
Travel & Working Environment
• Travel unlikely/limited.
• Hybrid working (Wappenham, UK) including working from home policy (3 office/2 WFH).
